#Climatechange is posing a serious #threat to #tea production in #India

The famous #AssamTea which accounts for more than half of #India’s tea production is facing a serious challenge from #globalwarming and #climatechange.  The #temperatures in the north-eastern Indian state of Assam have gone up.  #Dryperiods are now longer and #rainfallpatterns are changing.  While the unnatural #rainfall contributes to soil erosion of the tea garden, the dry spell invites pests.  Due to longer dry periods several large tea gardens have started using irrigation systems to get better yields.  This adds to the costs which is becoming expensive.  They cant raise the prices of tea due to worldwide competition.  Read on to find out more…..
